Preparing Students for Return to SchoolAs we prepare to welcome students back to school, we understand that transitioning from break mode to a structured school routine can be challenging for some children. Here are a few strategies to help ease the transition:
- Re-establish Routines
- Gradually return to school-day schedules, including wake-up and bedtime routines. Consistent sleep patterns can improve focus and mood.
-
- Encourage your child to pack their backpack, organize school supplies, and prepare their outfit the night before.
- Discuss Positive Aspects of School
- Talk about what your child enjoys at school, such as seeing friends, engaging in favorite subjects, or participating in extracurricular activities.
- If your child is anxious, reassure them by reminding them of past successes and fun experiences at school.
- Review Academic Materials
- Spend some time reviewing schoolwork, reading, or practicing basic math. This can help your child feel more confident about returning to learning.
- If your child received assignments over the break, make sure they’re completed and packed for school.
- Communicate and Connect
- Ask your child how they’re feeling about going back to school. Listen to their concerns and provide reassurance.
- Let teachers know if your child is feeling especially nervous or if there are any challenges to address.
- Be Prepared for the First Morning Back
- Plan ahead to make the first morning back as stress-free as possible. Have breakfast ready, leave early to avoid rushing, and send your child off with encouragement.
We are excited to welcome your child back and look forward to a productive and enriching school year!
We have noticed some students arrive at school in shorts, tee shirts, and at times no coats. With the weather becoming consistently cold please support your children in selecting the best options for cold weather. Encourage children to carry a hat and gloves in their coat pockets. We cannot predict what may occur on a school day or at the bus stops. It's prudent to have students dressed appropriately.
Winter Break (Student Holiday)As a reminder, winter break will be held from Monday, December 23, to Friday, January 3. To help make sure you and your children have a restful break, we have asked that no homework be assigned during this time. Teachers may assign long-range assignments in the weeks ahead of the break, allowing students to practice time management skills, but no assignments will be due immediately following the break. We look forward to welcoming students back in the new year. Classes resume on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025. See the complete school year calendar.
